The purity of the fruit is compelling.

2024 Kutch McDougall Ranch Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

The 2024 Pinot Noir McDougall is dark and enveloping. Black cherry, lavender, mint, orange peel and pine all take shape in the glass. Broad and ample, the 2024 is quite substantial in feel. This opens beautifully with a bit of time in the glass but remains a bit wild and unruly. There is certainly no shortage of character. Sadly, this is the last vintage for the Kutch McDougall Pinot.

The 2024 Pinot Noir Mindego Ridge Vineyard is a gorgeous wine done in a style that shows a more restrained side of this Santa Cruz Mountains site relative to the other wines made with this fruit. Dark cherry, sage, mint, blood orange, tobacco, dried flowers and graphite lend notable complexity. Muscular tannins wrap it all together in style. A touch of whole-cluster savoriness lingers on the close.

The 2024 Pinot Noir Bohan Vineyard is brisk and finely cut. Sweet dried red cherry, chalk, mint, slate and dried herbs all run through this nervy, ethereal Pinot. All of this fruit is from the original plantings that date back to 1972, still own-rooted and dry farmed. It's a very beautiful wine with strong old-school California inflections that favor structure over forward fruit.
