Bohan Salt Point
Salt Point Block Chardonnay comes from a singular and exposed corner of Bohan Vineyard, replanted in 2018 on the site of the original 1972 planting. This block sits closest to the Pacific Ocean and is shaped by its proximity to the coast, receiving persistent marine influence, cool air, and long growing seasons that favor natural acidity and slow, even ripening. The vines are planted to Burgundian Chardonnay material selected specifically for tension and structure, and the site consistently produces fruit with piercing freshness, low pH, and restrained sugars. Salt Point Chardonnay is defined by its drive rather than weight, offering saline edged minerality, citrus energy, and a tightly wound profile that reflects both the ocean’s presence and the rocky soils beneath the vines. It is a Chardonnay built on precision and clarity, where acidity is not a component but the spine of the wine, capturing the raw coastal character of this extreme Sonoma Coast site.
The name Salt Point reflects both geography and character. The block itself is shaped like a point, extending toward the Pacific and drawing in the ocean’s influence, and it takes its name from nearby Salt Point Park along the Sonoma Coast. That stretch of coastline is known for its striking Tafoni rock formations, sculpted by wind and salt over time, a quiet parallel to the mineral driven, saline edged profile of the wine. Salt Point Chardonnay is defined by precision rather than weight, offering citrus energy, coastal salinity, and a tightly coiled structure where acidity forms the backbone, capturing the raw, elemental nature of this extreme coastal site with clarity and restraint.
