Vineyard Team
Melissa Peabody, Assistant Winemaker
Melissa Peabody, was born and raised in San Diego, CA and studied Cognitive Science at UC Berkeley. She brings a rare combination of technical rigor, intuitive sensory skill, and clear-eyed operational leadership to Kutch Wines. With advanced training in viticulture and enology from UC Davis and hands-on experience at some of California’s most thoughtful, site-driven wineries, she is an essential partner in the continued evolution of the Kutch style. Her background spans regenerative and organic farming, native fermentations, and small-lot cellar work across a wide range of varieties and vineyard sites. At Kutch, Melissa applies skills honed over years at Oak Ridge Vineyard, an own-rooted and organic vineyard in the Columbia Gorge, and California wineries with a deep ecological ethos and scaled logistics such as Matthiasson, Phelan Farm, and Scribe Winery.
Melissa’s strength lies in her ability to move seamlessly between vineyard, cellar, and vegetable garden; translating careful observation into precise, restrained action. Her keen palate, attention to detail, and disciplined viticulture and winemaking approach reinforce the clarity and transparency that define Kutch Wines.
Working closely with Jamie Kutch, Melissa enhances both the depth and continuity of the winemaking process. Her role contributes to greater focus, dialogue, and refinement, strengthening the foundation of the Kutch winery while preserving its singular voice.
